यथा नदीनां बहवोऽम्बुवेगाः समुद्रमेवाभिमुखाः द्रवन्ति। तथा तवामी नरलोकवीरा विशन्ति वक्त्राण्यभिविज्वलन्ति।।11.28।।

Transliteration

yathā nadīnāṁ bahavo ’mbu-vegāḥ samudram evābhimukhā dravanti tathā tavāmī nara-loka-vīrā viśhanti vaktrāṇy abhivijvalanti

Ami These warriors such as Bhishma. Arjuna is now seeing all these warriors,whom he did not wish to kill, rushing to death. His delusion has vanished. He thinks now This battle cannot be avoided. It has the sanction of the Supreme Lord. Why should I worry about the inevitable The Lord has already destroyed these warriors. I am only an instrument in His hands. No sin can touch me even if I kill them. This is a just cause also.Why and how do they enter Arjuna says --

।।11.28।। समुद्र से मिलन के लिए आतुर? उसकी ओर वेग से बहने वाली नदियों की उपमा इस श्लोक में दी गई है। जिस स्रोत से नदी का उद्गम होता है? वहीं से उसे अपना विशेष व्यक्तित्व प्राप्त हो जाता है। किसी भी एक बिन्दु पर वह नदी न रुकती है और न आगे बढ़ने से कतराती ही है। अल्पमति का पुरुष यह कह सकता है कि नदी की प्रत्येक बूँद समीप ही किसी स्थान विशेष की ओर बढ़ रही है। परन्तु यथार्थवादी पुरुष जानता है कि सभी नदियां समुद्र की ओर ही बहती जाती हैं? और वे जब तक समुद्र से मिल नहीं जाती तब तक मार्ग के मध्य न कहीं रुक सकती हैं और न रुकेंगी। समुद्र के साथ एकरूप हो जाने पर विभिन्न नदियों के समस्त भेद समाप्त हाे जाते हैं।नदी के जल की प्रत्येक बूंद समुद्र से ही आयी है। प्रथम मेघ के रूप में वह ऊपर पर्वतशिखरों तक पहुंची और वहाँ वर्षा के रूप में प्रकट हुईनदी तट के क्षेत्रों को जल प्रदान करके खेतों को जीवन और पोषण देकर वे बूंदें वेगयुक्त प्रवाह के साथ अपने उस प्रभव स्थान में मिल जाती हैं? जहाँ से उन्होंने यह करुणा की उड़ान भरी थी। इसी प्रकार अपने समाज की सेवा और संस्कृति का पोषण करने तथा विश्व के सौन्दर्य की वृद्धि में अपना योगदान देने के लिए समष्टि से ही सभी व्यष्टि जीव प्रकट हुए हैं? परन्तु उनमें से कोई भी व्यक्ति अपनी इस तीर्थयात्रा के मध्य नहीं रुक सकता है। सभी को अपने मूल स्रोत की ओर शीघ्रता से बढ़ना होगा। सम्ाुद्र को प्राप्त होने से नदी की कोई हानि नहीं होती है। यद्यपि मार्ग में उसे कुछ विशेष गुण प्राप्त होते हैं? जिनके कारण उसे एक विशेष नाम और आकार प्राप्त हो जाता है? तथपि उसका यह स्वरूप क्षणिक है। यह समुद्र के जल द्वारा शुष्क भूमि को बहुलता से समृद्ध करने के लिए लिया गया सुविधाजनक रूप है।इस श्लोक पर जितना अधिक हम विचार करेंगे उतना अधिक उसमें निहित आनन्द हमें प्राप्त होगा।किसलिये वे प्रवेश करते हैं अर्जुन बताता है कि

।।11.28।। व्याख्या--'यथा नदीनां बहवोऽम्बुवेगाः समुद्रमेवाभिमुखा द्रवन्ति'--मूलमें जलमात्र समुद्रका है। वही जल बादलोंके द्वारा वर्षारूपमें पृथ्वीपर बरसकर झरने, नाले आदिको लेकर नदियोंका रूप धारण करता है। उन नदियोंके जितने वेग हैं, प्रवाह हैं, वे सभी स्वाभाविक ही समुद्रकी तरफ दौड़ते हैं। कारण कि जलका उद्गम स्थान समुद्र ही है। वे सभी जल-प्रवाह समुद्रमें जाकर अपने नाम और रूपको छोड़कर अर्थात् गङ्गा, यमुना, सरस्वती आदि नामोंको और प्रवाहके रूपको छोड़कर समुद्ररूप ही हो जाते हैं। फिर वे जल-प्रवाह समुद्रके सिवाय अपना कोई अलग, स्वतन्त्र अस्तित्व नहीं रखते। वास्तवमें तो उनका स्वतन्त्र अस्तित्व पहले भी नहीं था? केवल नदियोंके प्रवाहरूपमें होनेके कारण वे अलग दीखते थे।
